Mundaring Wier the first major water supply for the growing city of Perth. In the late 1800's when gold
was found in Kalgoorlie and a city was born there was very short of water. A man named C. Y. O'Connor had a vision. A pipe
line from the Wier to Kalgoorlie to also supply this growing community. He designed and built the pipe line some 600km long.
A major feat in those days. The water was turned on and started to pump this great distance. It took longer than estimated
to reach its destination and O'Connor stricken with grief at his failure commited suicide. Sortly after this tragidy water
gushed out of the pipe and started to fill the newly constructed Kalgoolie Wier. He was not a failure and did not realise
his dream.
