Quartz hill the country where gold is found

Kalgoorlie the Golden Mile. A man named Paddy Hannan discovered gold here in the 1800's and so the beginning of Kalgoorlie. In the first picture you will notice how wide the streets are. This is because in the early days kalgoorlie was supplied by camel trains and they made the steets so wide so the Afgan camel drivers could turn the trains around. Kalgoorlie is rich in history for this young country of ours. This is where the water pipeline came 600km from Mundaring Wier that I wrote about in earlier pages. Although prostitution does not exsist in WA (ha ha ha) Hay street is famous for its bordellos. Although the one shown in the picture called Langtree's (Americanisation again) is a far cry from the corrigated iron shacks with party lights strung up outside as decorations that I remember from my first trip to Kal. I only looked I didn't go in (believe it or not) you don't visit Kal and not sight see Hay Street.

Broad Arrow Pub north of Kalgoorlie

North to the ghost town of Broad Arrow. Not much there just the pub and an old railway station. It was made famous in tthe 70's and the nickel boom with a company called Posiden. people made and los millions of dollars in that fiasco on the stock market. Shares started at about 20 cents each and within a month or so went to $40 odd and just as quickly went down and dissapeared. A movie was made and Broad Arrow was the ghost town they used to film the movie. I have had a few beers in that pub to while it was open.
